Sitges began to rise in popularity as a holiday resort in the early 20th century. The first to come to this small coastal town, with its excellent climate, were artists from Barcelona and other parts of Europe. Not long afterwards, Sitges started to become known as a place chosen by gay tourists looking for the Mediterranean dream.
Sitges has always been renowned as a holiday resort and home for gays, as the town has a large number of gay bars and other places and welcoming residents who appreciate diversity.
Spend the morning on the beach and after lunch and a siesta, make the most of the bars, discos, saunas, etc., of which Sitges has plenty. Begin on Carrer de Sant Bonaventura or neighbouring streets and the streets in the old part of Sitges. At night, there are lots of bars in the town to choose from, as well as two large discos in the centre.
The best places to meet new likeminded friends are the beach in front of the Hotel Calipolis, Home Mort Beach, Els Balmins Beach and the breakwater beach. If the beach is too dark at night, enjoy a stroll around the streets Carrer de Primer de Maig and Carrer Marquès de Montroig. And you can of course drop in to a sauna... |
